Feeling Blessed

My husband, at the age of 45, needed a hip replacement for a chronic hip condition. We were so very nervous about it all. Who wouldn't be? The thought of someone cutting off part of your bone to replace it with a mechanical part. We were worried if it would work, how much pain he would be in, etc. After much prayer, and prayers coming from around the globe (my mother in law who was in Ireland at the time), as well as an intercession request from Saint Luke; I am happy to report he is doing fabulous!
He was up and walking within in 8 hours with manageable and minimal pain (or I should say with not as much pain killers as he was allowed to take). The next day he showed off by doing the stairs as well as 4 laps. The third day, he surprised me by having his cousin, the Bishop of the Diocese of Boise, to come in to renew our marriage vows for our 15th wedding anniversary. Of course, I said yes again! My husband is still healing, but doing very well.
Other news....I have received my teaching certificate. Now I just need to student teach and apply for a job. Though I am still planning on teaching preschool for the Y in the inclusion preschool at the Elementary School this year until I do the student teaching. Sometime this summer I plan on finishing my Catechist Certificate. With all the crazy stuff going on, I had to put it on the back burner. I only have two seminars to do before I complete it. I plan on applying not only to the public schools, but our local Catholic Schools as well.
We still have a garden, but this year we are growing corn! I feel like such a farmer! Albeit a suburban one.

Sometimes life gets really busy and lot of crazy things go on. But I feel so blessed to be where I am in life and to have such a wonderful family!

Christmas is almost here!

I haven't really been in the Christmas mood this year. Alas, Christmas is only 4 days away. At least I am very thankful I have a beautiful family, a warm home, and food. There are other less fortunate than I. I pray for those who don't have a home to call their own, who are without family, or are hungry.

October is Holy Rosary Month!

Don't forget to say a Rosary! Pray for our leaders, for those that are dealing with hardships, for families, and for marriages. Thank you most Blessed Intercessor!

End of Summer..........

We have been so busy that I have all but forgotten about my blog. I thought I would give a garden update! We started off as lack luster but finally coming on; our bounty, our harvest! We have a bumper crop of cucumbers and our tomatoes are finally turning red. Plus we have plenty of Zukes and yellow squash. The carrots however are puny.

For Halloween we have 3 pumpkins! We are still learning and next year will be expanding our garden by another 10 feet! Now if we can keep our newest family member out of the garden..our fruit bat....

Okay, he's a pug. However, he resembles a fruit bat when he is upside down! Happy end of summer! May your Fall be plentiful!

Uses for grass....

Why yes, we are putting grass down in our garden and around our vegetables. This helps hold moisture in and helps keep the weeds at bay. Another way to use your grass clipping besides putting some in your compost!

Keeping warm!

This pile plus another trailer load of wood are to dry out over the summer for heating our house in the winter in one of our three fireplaces. This helps us cut down on using our furnace to heat our house and saves on our power bill!

A Pinch of That...

Do you grow your own herbs? We grow Basil, Cilantro, Parley, and Oregano currently. Last night I made my yummy Orzo Salad with fresh Basil from our garden.

Orzo Salad

1 package of Orzo cook according to instructions
some spinach leaves chopped
some basil leaves chopped
3-4 tomatoes diced
1/2-3/4 cup Feta cheese
1 TBS of minced garlic or to taste
1 tsp pepper
